Zimoun – Guitar Studies I-III (Room40, CD+Book/digital)

Apart from the piano, hardly any other instrument has played such a leading role in recent Western music history as the guitar. This also means that its possibilities seem to be exhausted by now. The Swiss artist Zimoun uses it as a sound generator for his extensive »Guitar Studies I-III«—all three pieces are a good hour long—and plays it either conventionally or as a prepared instrument. In the final result, its sound is hardly recognisable: these recordings offer powerful, dense and intense dronescapes. The guitar has rarely been heard like this.
