Lamin Fofana – Ballad Air & Fire (Black Studies, digital)

The last three previous albums by the multimedia artist Lamin Fofana were already arranged as a trilogy, »Ballad Air & Fire« now marks the beginning of the next one. While the successors announced for July and August are set to question the Western concept of rationality and are intended to imagine new Afro-diasporic geographies, respectively, the first part, named after a poem by Amiri Baraka, introduces the theme of slowness, which will run through the triptych as a common thread. Background sound textures are contrasted with field recordings and noise in the first of the two pieces, while the second works with synthetic sounds and voices. A leisurely start indeed for an undoubtedly exciting project.
