Eva-Maria Houben | Quentin Tolimieri

World premiere of Eva-Maria Houben, Stars and Earth (2019) for two contrabasses, performed by Michael Duch and Koen Nutters
Quentin Tolimieri, Three Comedies: Variations (2014), multichannel electronic music, performed by Quentin Tolimieri
KM28 continues its opening weekend for the fall 2019 season with a new work by EVA-MARIA HOUBEN, Stars and Earth, composed for bassists Michael Duch and Koen Nutters.
According to Houben, “If you would ask me for a statement to [describe] composing, my composing, I would answer: listening becomes the awareness of fading sound. Fading sound is the link between life and art; between perception in daily life and perception while performing, while composing.”
QUENTIN TOLIMIERI's "delightfully cockamamie" work Three Comedies has been presented in its entirety at the SPOR Festival for New Music and Sound Art and discussed at length in Eldritch Priest's "Boring Formless Nonsense: Experimental Music and the Aesthetics of Failure."
According to Priest, the quality of Tolimieri’s MIDI instruments is immediately recognizable by their low fidelity and completely un-nuanced simulation of acoustic instruments. This contrasts with what Tolimieri reluctantly calls "a quality of humanness," in which a body is seen to revolve around its opposing capacities of elegance and clumsiness.
