Online-Talk: Meeting with the Ukrainian Contemporary Music Community

Presentation of KCMD's new foundation for support and panel discussion on the current situation of Ukrainian musicians

Since 2015, the educational and concert platform Kyiv Contemporary Music Days (KCMD) has been working towards the goal to establish Kyiv as the capital of contemporary music in Central and Eastern Europe. The city became home of an emerging scene with a high number of cultural events, a vivid scene of grassroot initiatives and a curious audience.

The Russian large-scale attack on Ukraine – and on Europe – since February set a sudden stop to this effort. Since then, the platform has been committed to supporting artists at risk and created a foundation for the Ukrainian classical and contemporary music community. Donations are used to cover living expenses (food, medicines, accommodation) for Ukrainian composers, performers, and musicologists. The foundation also helps musicians to maintain their artistic practice (maintenance of instruments, purchase of an inexpensive instrument in case of loss, etc.) and provides artists with unbureaucratic financial support.

KCMD and inm / field notes invite you to a joint web talk on May 6, 5pm (CET) / 6pm (EET) on the current situation of artists in the field of contemporary music in Ukraine. A round table discussion will cover historical dimensions and recent developments of contemporary music in Ukraine as well as effective ways to support Ukrainian culture and Ukrainian musicians, whether in Ukraine or in exile.

After the panel discussion, we would like to invite you to stay for an open discussion with “digital drinks”. A glass of Nalyvka (Rosolio) or a bit stronger Horilka is particularly recommended!
